William was born in Alvin, Texas in 1962. Surrounded by cowboy hats and cows, he has plenty of exposure to the western world of horses but was drawn to the jumpers. In his youth, he traveled from coast to coast, first winning in the Junior Jumpers but moving quickly through the ranks under the tutelage of greats such as Rodney Jenkins. By age 16, William had won the Ocala Grand Prix. At age 17, William set the indoor record at the prestigious Washington International Horse Show. By age 26, he had won over 30 Grands Prix.

Making these accomplishments even more impressive is that many were achieved on an off-track Thoroughbred found by William's father. William restarted the handsome gelding in the jumpers, and he quickly became one of the best horses of his lifetime. William developed and rode "Hole In One" from Junior Hunters to Grands Prix. The relationship developed with "Hole In One" nurtured his love of working with young horses.

Because he spent much of his lifetime traveling from the East Coast to the West Coast with his home base in Texas, William cultivated many relationships with professionals in the industry and became quite shrewd at placing people and horses together. For the past 40 years, William has been very successful buying and selling horses. He began his success in this part of the industry in Texas. In 2001, William met his future wife, Samantha, in California. They since married an relocated to Santa Barbara, CA where they operate a very successful stables and sales business. In the past 7 years, they have represented buyers and sellers in $10M worth of horse sales.

Most recently, William has gone 'back to his roots'. He and Samantha purchased a farm in Santa Ynez, CA and created their own breeding program to cultivate the best horses for a variety of disciplines. Their focus is developing Cal-Bred Thoroughbreds for the racetrack, jumper horses (TB's, warmbloods and warmblood crosses) as well as foundation Quarter Horses. Their mission is to create and start the best horses of sound body and mind; athletic enough to be competitive in any sport at which they excel.

A long career in the horse industry has given William a depth of knowledge in the industry and he is looking forward to dedicating more of that time and knowledge to Woodway Equestrian in the future.
